Google’s 3rd generation Learning Thermostat is for those starting out in their smart home journey.
Smart thermostats can do so much more than just adjusting the temperature of our homes. These smart devices enable you to adjust your home’s temperature from anywhere. From the office to the grocery store, even if you’re away on vacation, take control of your thermostat with just a touch of your connected smartphone.
The morConnect team has reviewed the 3rd generation Nest Learning thermostat and we are loving it! With more people spending time indoors, it’s more important than ever for us to be more comfortable in our own homes. And we believe the Google Nest Thermostat is a great addition to any home. We’ll be listing down the things we love about Google’s Nest Learning Thermostat.
Google’s Learning Thermostat, measuring in 1.2 inches thick and 3.3 inches in diameter, comes in a sleek design with seven colors to choose from. It does need to be connected to your existing HVAC system though. You can install it yourself (it includes a screwdriver and a manual) or you can contact your trusted HVAC partner to install it for you.

The thermostat is powered by the same app that’s used for Nest Protect and Nest Indoor and Outdoor cameras. It’s fairly simple and easy to use. With the app you can adjust the thermostat even when you’re away. No more going back to the house if you forgot to turn off your heat! You can also set a schedule so that it’ll power you when you’re at work or on vacation. You can also set it to power on your heating system if the temperature suddenly drops lower than expected. These are just one of the many features that we have tried on the app.
The app is fairly straight forward
The Learning part of the Learning Thermostat
If you don’t want to bother with all the settings in the app, you can also just install it and through its programming adjust to your lifestyle. Is it chillier tonight than normal? The Learning Thermostat will adjust the temperature to suit your needs automatically. It also uses motion sensors and switches to energy conservation mode when you’re not home. The more you use the thermostat though the faster it will learn about you and your unique needs.
Aside from automatically adjusting your system to your liking, it will also offer suggestions on how you can save money by using less energy. It will show you a monthly report on your energy usage and you can see how much you’ve used and how much you can potentially save.

Smart Home Connectivity
If you already have Alexa or Google Home, the thermostat can easily integrate with both of them. If you have your hands full you can ask them to turn the heat up or down. Since the thermostat is controllable on your app, you can change the temperature of your home from anywhere. Want to come home to a warm living room? Just pull up the app and turn the heat up. Is it hotter than usual? Pull up the app when you’re on your couch to lower the temperature. It’s that easy!

Auto-Away and Auto-Schedule
The thermostat’s connection to your smartphone can trigger an auto-away feature that adjusts the thermostat to the best temperature for conserving energy. Whether you’re on vacation or just away doing your groceries it will adjust the temperature to ensure you can save the most money and energy.
The auto-schedule feature will remember your daily routine. It will create an estimated schedule for your home’s temperature so it will be just right when you come home. It will however take a few weeks for it to learn your schedule. Want the thermostat to learn a bit faster? Manually set the schedule for the first few days and it will adjust accordingly in the future.
Installing the Nest Learning Thermostat is not difficult, but not easy either. It is however straight forward. You just need to turn off your HVAC system, and replace your old thermostat. The Learning Thermostat includes a screwdriver and a set of instructions on how to install it. Once you have installed the Learning Thermostat, just use the display to connect to your home’s wifi and connect it with the Nest app.
Handy tools are included for DIYers
The Google Nest Learning Thermostat costs $329. It is a little pricier than the other smart thermostats in the market. But with its energy saving feature it will more than pay for itself in 2 years. Plus you may even qualify for a rebate if you ask our morConnect team.
